A Backyard Fall Wedding in Manchester, Iowa — Capturing My Best Friends’ Big Day
There are some weddings that stay with you forever — not just because of the perfect weather or gorgeous details, but because of the people. Aaron and Alexis’ fall wedding in Manchester, Iowa was one of those days.
Not only did I have the honor of being their photographer, but this time, the couple in front of my lens were also two of our closest friends — and that made the day all the more special.
From Neighbors to Lifelong Friends
When my husband and I moved to Marion, Iowa five years ago, we had no idea we were about to meet two people who would become like family. We lived in the same townhome complex as Aaron and Alexis, and when my husband started working with Aaron, the four of us quickly hit it off. The rest, as they say, is history.
Even though we now live in different towns, we’re still just 15 minutes apart — and our friendship is stronger than ever. So when Aaron and Alexis got engaged and Alexis asked me to photograph their wedding, I don’t think I’ve ever said “YES!” faster in my life. What an honor.
A Ceremony Straight Out of a Backyard Dream
Their October wedding took place in Aaron’s grandmother’s backyard in Manchester, surrounded by vibrant fall trees in full color. The ceremony was intimate and deeply personal — the kind that makes your heart feel full just witnessing it.
Alexis’ dad handcrafted the most beautiful wooden arch, and her uncle served as the officiant. It was truly the kind of setting every bride dreams of: personal, cozy, emotional, and surrounded by love.
Best Seat in the House (With a Camera in Hand)
While my husband stood by Aaron’s side as his best man, I got the best seat in the house as their photographer — front row access to every laugh, every tear, and every unforgettable moment.
Capturing your best friends on one of the biggest days of their lives? There’s truly nothing better. These two are sunshine in human form — always finding the joy in every situation, always making those around them feel at ease.
A Reception Full of Joy
The reception was packed with close friends, family, and coworkers — all there to celebrate two people who light up every room they walk into. There were heartfelt speeches, dance floor laughs, and all the happy tears you’d expect when a couple this loved ties the knot.
And once the “official” parts of the day were wrapped up, I got to tuck my camera away and join the fun. Being able to be a guest for the last few hours of the night — surrounded by my favorite people — was the perfect ending to the perfect day.
Aaron & Alexis: A Love Worth Celebrating
Aaron and Alexis, thank you for trusting me with such a meaningful role in your day. Watching your relationship grow over the past five years has been a gift — and being there, camera in hand, on your wedding day was one of the biggest honors of my life.
You two are the real deal — full of heart, laughter, and the kind of love that makes everyone around you feel it too. Wishing you a lifetime of joy, spontaneous dance parties, and more moments just like this one.
