Senior Photography Sessions:
Locations + Choosing Your Season
Senior year is a huge milestone, and your senior photos should reflect who you are during this exciting season of life. My goal with every senior session is to create images that feel authentic to you—photos that capture your personality, passions, and style. One of the best ways to do that is through thoughtful locations and bringing meaningful elements into your session.
Choosing the Perfect Location
I love photographing seniors at a variety of locations because every setting offers something unique. Whether you love nature, urban vibes, or something in between, there’s a spot that will help tell your story.
Some of my favorite locations include Lake Macbride State Park, Palisades, Marion, downtown Cedar Rapids, and Kent Park in Oxford. Each location brings its own atmosphere and variety for photos.
At Lake Macbride State Park, you get the best of nature—beautiful water views, sandy beach areas, wooded trails, and tall grasses. It’s perfect for seniors who love the outdoors or want a relaxed, natural feel to their photos.
Palisades offers dramatic scenery with cliffs, river views, and gorgeous wooded areas. The textures and natural backdrops there make every session feel adventurous and unique.
If you love an urban feel, downtown Cedar Rapids provides amazing variety with brick walls, alleyways, staircases, murals, and modern architecture. It’s a great place to create stylish, bold senior photos that really stand out.
Marion also offers great downtown charm along with beautiful parks and natural spaces nearby, making it easy to mix both urban and nature-inspired looks into one session.
And Kent Park in Oxford is a hidden gem for senior sessions. With its peaceful water views, walking paths, wooded areas, and tall grassy fields, it provides a calm and beautiful setting with tons of variety.
Using the Elements of Each Location
One of the things I love most about these locations is how many different elements we can incorporate into your photos.
Water can create calm, reflective images or fun, carefree moments near the shoreline. Beaches add a relaxed, summery vibe that works beautifully with flowy outfits and natural light.
Wooded areas provide soft light and depth, creating warm and timeless portraits. Tall grassy fields add texture and movement, especially during golden hour when the light glows through the grass.
Downtown environments bring energy and personality with bold lines, interesting architecture, and unique textures like brick, metal, and stone.
By mixing these elements throughout your session, we can create a gallery that feels diverse, dynamic, and completely personalized.
Bring Your Personality to Your Session
The most important part of any senior session isn’t the location—it’s you.
The more personality you bring, the better your photos will be. Senior sessions should reflect your interests, hobbies, and what makes you unique.
Do you play an instrument? Bring it along! Whether it’s a guitar, violin, or trumpet, incorporating music into your session can make your photos feel more personal and meaningful.
Are you involved in sports? Let’s head to the baseball field, basketball court, football field, or wherever you play. Action-inspired shots and relaxed portraits in your uniform can be a great way to celebrate the activities that shaped your high school years.
If fishing or hunting is something you love, we can absolutely incorporate that too. Heading to a park or lake to cast a line can create authentic moments that truly represent who you are.
From hobbies and sports equipment to favorite outfits and personal items, these small details help tell your story in a way that standard portraits simply can’t.
Session Options
I offer three senior session options so you can choose the experience that works best for you:
• The Heirloom 2-Hour Session – Perfect if you want multiple locations, several outfit changes, and lots of variety in your gallery.
•The Classic 1-Hour Session – A great balance that allows time for one location with multiple looks.
•The Yearbook 30-Minute Session – A shorter session that still delivers beautiful images with a simple, streamlined experience.
No matter which session you choose, my goal is the same—to create photos that capture this milestone in a way that feels real, natural, and uniquely you.
Let’s Tell Your Story
Senior photos are more than just pictures for the yearbook. They’re a celebration of who you are right now and everything that got you here.
With the right location, meaningful elements, and your personality leading the way, we can create a session that feels fun, relaxed, and completely authentic.
So bring your hobbies, your style, and your story—and let’s create something amazing together.
Spring Sessions
offer a fresh and soft feel with blooming trees, flowers, and new greenery everywhere. This season brings gentle colors like soft pinks, light blues, creams, and pastels that photograph beautifully against the fresh landscape. Flowy dresses, lighter fabrics, and soft color palettes work wonderfully in spring settings. It’s a great season if you want photos that feel light, airy, and full of life.
Summer Sessions
are full of vibrant greens, glowing sunsets, and warm light that lasts well into the evening. Beaches, water, and tall grassy fields look especially beautiful this time of year. Summer outfits are often light and relaxed—flowy dresses, short sleeves, casual outfits, and brighter colors that pop against the lush greenery. The warm golden hour light also adds a dreamy glow that makes portraits feel bright and joyful.
Fall Sessions
are incredibly popular for senior photos, and it’s easy to see why. The changing leaves bring rich colors like deep reds, oranges, yellows, and warm browns that add incredible depth and texture to images. Fall outfits also photograph beautifully—think cozy sweaters, flannels, layered outfits, boots, and earthy tones that complement the scenery. The cooler weather and softer light create a warm, cozy atmosphere that many seniors love.
Winter sessions
are perfect for seniors looking for something a little different. Snow-covered landscapes create a clean, bright backdrop that really makes you stand out in your photos. Winter outfits can be both stylish and cozy—think layered jackets, scarves, sweaters, boots, and textured fabrics. The contrast between warm clothing and crisp winter scenery can create stunning and unique portraits.
